SAGE ESSENTIAL OIL
Our Sage essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the herb Salvia officinalis which is growing in Turkey. We need 50-100 kg leaves to receive 1 kg essential oil.
Sage was known as a ‘sacred herb’ by the ancient Romans and the name “Sage” actually comes from the Latin word “salvia,” what means “to save.” Greeks and Romans used it to cure snake bites and to invigorate the mind and body. The Chinese believed Sage cured sterility. In the Middle Ages, people used Sage to clean the gums and they drank Sage in tea to treat colds, fevers, liver trouble.
Sage has been valued as medicinal herb for over 2,000 years, and has been used to treat a wide range of muscular, respiratory, skin, hair and scalp problems.
Sage essential oil may be useful for balancing the female hormones. Traditionally Sage oil is used to treat sweating and menopausal hot flashes, as well as to alleviate the associated menopausal symptoms, Sage Essential Oil appears to have an estrogen-like effect on hormones, making valuable for balancing the feminine cycle and treating the menopause.
Sage oil can be helpful in easing arthritis and painful muscles It also can help stimulate the digestive system and boost the urinary tract, liver, kidneys and lymphatic system.
Sage Essential Oil has an antispasmodic action which is why it is so valuable in massage or baths for easing cramps, muscular aches and pains and stiff joints.
It also stimulates the nervous system by increasing the activity of the adrenal cortex, and research has shown it can improve memory and cognition and may be helpful with affective disorders.
Add 1-2 drops sage essential oil in your aroma steamer to remove all negative energy in a room and refresh the room for a new beginning. A lot of people all over the world use sage “cleaning ceremonies”.
Sage essential oil is contra-indicated with epilepsy, fever and during pregnancy due to the content of b-Thujone. Do not use on children under 12 year or on people who suffer with high blood pressure. It should be used in low concentrations as it can be toxic with overuse and can cause convulsions.
