Vetiver is a tall, fragrant, grass with an extensive network of fibrous, aromatic roots. Our essential oil is produced in Haiti with a steam distillation of the plant’s chopped roots. We need 30-50 kg of roots to receive 1 kg of essential oil.
Vetiver oil has been used in the East for its fragrance. The grass was also traditionally used for thatching and for making awnings, blinds, sunshades and mats, which not only gave a lovely fragrance but also deterred insects. Still they make curtains from the grass and the roots, hang this in the doors or window for cool the house and keep away the insects.
In India vetiver essential oil is known as the ‘oil of tranquility’.
Benefits
Vetiver is known as the ‘oil of tranquility’. It is calming, soothing and restorative for both mind and body, and has beneficial effects on the skin. Vetiver is often used as a fixative in oriental-type perfumes and as a natural fragrance ingredient in soaps. It also helps to repel moths and can be sprinkled onto cotton wool balls and placed in wardrobes and draws to protect clothes.
Vetiver oil is beneficial for mature skin that has lost its tone and elasticity. It helps to strengthen tired, loose and undernourished skin and can help combat wrinkles and stretch marks. It can also be used to accelerate the healing of wounds.
It strengthens connective tissue, restores the immune system, and brings balance to hormonal and emotional conditions.
This makes Vetiver Essential Oil ideal for balancing and stabilizing a wide range of conditions associated with the menopause and PMS, as well as having a grounding and calming effect on emotional conditions such as restlessness, agitation and oversensitivity. It’s the ideal restorative after burn-out too.
Vetiver essential oil can help reconnect with the earth and the natural, positive energy all around us. Vetiver essential oil offers gentle sedation and is restorative when one is needing a little additional emotional support.
