Our Anise is harvested in Turkey, but it is thought to have originated in India and Spain. The essential oil is made by distillation of the ripen fruit. 25 kg of anise seeds supplies 1 kilo of oil.

You will find Anise used in cough medicines products and in herb drinks where it is used to sweeten the breath and relieve indigestion. Anise is also an important additive to liquors like Pernod.

Egyptians used Aniseed to “ refresh the heart ” The Roman’s commonly chewed Anise seeds after eating rich meals. Anise is found in all Asian pharmacopoeias where it is attributed to bringing calmness to life. In Japan Aniseed trees are planted in temples and near graves, and the powdered bark is used as incense. In Tibetan medicine Aniseed is described as a nerve tonic.


Anise essential oil is high in athenol, a chemical component found in the ethers family, therapeutically it is a perfect oil to use when looking to relieve digestive distress. It is also a wonderful oil to use in blends for reducing pain and inflammation, unwanted phlegm, wheezing, and coughing. This oil is also an excellent antispasmodic, for both the smooth and skeletal muscles.

Energetically, anise essential oil is immensely uplifting, comforting, and emotionally grounding especially if one is feeling withdrawn and/or fearfu).

Evaporate three drops anise essential oil when you are couging or when you have a cold.

Anise essential oil is very strong and should be avoided during pregnancy and while nursing. This is an oil that should only be used in small amounts and for short periods of time.

Trans-anethole has a weak estrogen-like activity, and it is contraindicated for pregnancy, breastfeeding, endometriosis, any estrogen-related cancers, and children under 5 years of age. Oral doses are not recommended for people taking diabetes medication, diuretic medication, renal insufficiency, and edematous disorders. Also, may interfere with anticoagulant medications or bleeding disorders. When oxidized, it may be skin sensitizing.
